Citizenship Class

Hosting Citizenship Classes is a way to serve immigrant neighbors by supporting Lawful Permanent Residents in their final step towards becoming naturalized citizens.
WHat is A CITIZENSHIP CLASS?
Citizenship classes support immigrants who are eligible to apply for naturalization to prepare for the citizenship test and interview. In these classes, they have opportunities to build the knowledge and confidence they need to successfully pass the citizenship test.
WHY A CITIZENSHIP CLASS?
Hosting Citizenship Classes is a way to support Lawful Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders) in their final step towards preparing for citizenship. Lawful Permanent Residents often have little to no access to quality citizenship classes. Materials that can be accessed online or through print materials are challenging to navigate.
Citizenship Classes provide a safe and supportive learning community in which students are able to acquire the confidence and skills needed to succeed in the naturalization process and interview. A Church Partner that hosts a Citizenship Class has the opportunity to connect authentically with immigrants while partnering with them in meaningfully ways.
The Immigrant Connection Citizenship Class has specifically been designed for immigrants with beginner to intermediate levels of English proficiency. For immigrants with high levels of education and literacy, there are numerous resources available both online and in print. Our curriculum fills the gap in what is available specifically for those with lower levels. It is designed to nurture confidence and skills so that those with lower levels of English proficiency can be better prepared to succeed in their pursuit of citizenship.
What does a Citizenship Class look like?
The Citizenship Class is a 12-week curriculum. The teacher/leader and students meet for 12 sessions and complete the full Immigrant Connection Citizenship Class curriculum.
The Immigrant Connection Citizenship Class Curriculum Kit is volunteer/teacher friendly. Each week comes with a powerpoint presentation, script for teaching, and ideas for games and dialogue to reinforce the concepts taught. By the end of the course, students will feel confident and prepared for the citizenship interview.
